"I read in a book once that a rose by any other name would smell as sweet, but I've never been able to believe it. I don't believe a rose would be as nice if it was called a thistle or a skunk-cabbage." This article is about Jem and Faith Blythe's son. You may be looking for his great-grandfather, Walter Shirley, or his uncle, Walter Blythe. |
Walter Cuthbert Blythe Jr. was the son of Faith and Jem Blythe, the brother of Jem Jr., and the grandson of Anne and Gilbert Blythe. Although it is not clearly stated, it is assumed that he was also the brother of Anne Blythe.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Walter was most likely born in early 1920s to Faith and Jem Blythe. He spent his childhood years playing in Glen St. Mary with his relatives and the children from the neighbourhood, namely Jem and Anne Blythe, Rilla Ford, Diana Meredith, Susette King, Jack Bell, Dick, Letty and Jerry Thornton.[1]
Walter and his relatives hated Dick as he was mean both to people and animals. Years later, Jerry remembered Walter's interest in poetry and remarked on the fact that the Walters in the Blythe family seem to run to it.[2]
He was known to have a liking for Zoe Maylock against the wishes of Dr. Parsons.
World War II[]
It is implied by Jerry that by the late 1940s, most of their contemporaries had gotten married, which possibly included Walter.[3]
