Behind the scenes[]
Cultural references
- The title of this episode is a reference to Chapter 23 of Jane Eyre, Charlotte Brontë's novel which had an influence on L.M. Montgomery's writing. The titular character works as a teacher for wealthy Mr. Rochester, whom she secretly loves. Believing he is about to get married to another woman, she wants to leave his house and go to Ireland. He tries to stop her by saying, "I sometimes have a queer feeling with regard to you—especially when you are near me, as now: it is as if I had a string somewhere under my left ribs, tightly and inextricably knotted to a similar string situated in the corresponding quarter of your little frame."
