|"I read in a book once that a rose by any other name would smell as sweet, but I've never been able to believe it. I don't believe a rose would be as nice if it was called a thistle or a skunk-cabbage."|
This article is about the tenth episode of Season 1 of Road to Avonlea (1990–1996). You may be looking for "The Witch of Avonlea", the 18th episode of Anne of Green Gables: The Animated Series (2000–2001).
Felix doesn’t want to go to school because he is terrified of his Aunt Hetty and has difficulty with spelling. To make matters worse, Hetty makes Felix wear a dunce cap when he misspells a word while practicing for a Spelling Bee that his class is competing in. The thought of wearing the dunce cap again gives Felix terrible nightmares.
Hetty King: It's one of life's challenges. To win you have to study hard, reach down within you, you have to go beyond your expectations. Then you will find that glory awaits you.
Janet King: How like a King! Always has to have the last word.
Hetty: Well, at least we can spell it, unlike you Wards.
Alec King: Cats...amazing creatures, cats. Nine lives, they say. Could be frisky as a kitten in the morning. They're so quick to recuperate.
Andrew King: You see, I've been reading since the age of four and all those words, they're up here.
Peg Bowen: A moment ago you were crying for help like a bleating calf.
