Behind the scenes[]
- This story takes place after the Blythe children met the Merediths and Mary Vance, which occurred in May 1906. Susan points out that it is well to have a roof over your head and a warm fire to snuggle by on a night like that, suggesting that the story takes place during winter.
- In the original text, Montgomery misspelled Roy's surname (Gardiner instead of Gardner). The editor left it in to preserve the originality of her work.
