Charlotte Holmes attends her local Sewing Circle on the afternoon of her fortieth birthday and is met with inquiries into her love life. Never having had a beau, Charlotte invents the dashing Cecil Fenwick, a lawyer from Blakely, New Brunswick. When a man called Cecil Fenwick arrives in Avonlea to visit his sister, Charlotte finds herself in a potentially embarrassing situation.
