SCENE: Anne is lying on her back on some picnic rugs laid on leaves. It is raining.
Anne: Dear old world, you are very lovely, and I am glad to be alive in you.
Gilbert: [coming up with an umbrella] Anne, what are you doing?
Anne: Gil, have you ever experienced anything as wonderful as the rain in Avonlea?
Gilbert: [lays his jacket down and settles himself beside her] I can think of a few things as wonderful.
Anne: Don't use the umbrella; you're spoiling the view.
Gilbert: You'll catch pneumonia.
Anne: [sits up and faces Gilbert] Should I die of pneumonia, Gilbert, promise me that you will set me off to sea in a white dress, with flowers in my hair. And Diana will wear a black silk gown and you will tell everyone that there was never such a tragic day as the day you lost Anne with an 'e' of Green Gables and Avonlea.
Gilbert: [closes his umbrella and puts it aside] I never want to spend a day without you, Anne.
Anne: You mean because we've become such good friends, Gil?
Gilbert: [turns away slightly] Yes. [meets her eyes again] Because we've become such good friends.
[They kiss passionately.]
TITLE
Director: Nice work, guys. Just one more and we'll break for lunch.
[Lily is avoiding James's eyes.]
James: So, what's your favourite kind of music?
Lily: [turns to him] Please don't talk to me. [turns away]
James: Hmm. You are ... not a nice person.
[Lily rolls her eyes and fiddles with her hair. James sighs, takes a book from next to Lily and starts to read it, settling back on the picnic rugs.]
Lily: Can I get a water, please? [under her breath] And a mint.
James: [glances briefly up from the book] Yeah, can you get her a mint?
