Marilla Cuthbert is the sister of Matthew Cuthbert, the adoptive mother of Anne Shirley, a close friend of Rachel Lynde, and the resident of Green Gables.

Portrayal

• Patricia Gage provided the voice of Marilla in Anne of Green Gables: The Animated Series (2000–2001) and Anne: Journey to Green Gables (2005). She debuts in "Carrots!", the first episode of the series. Gage also portrayed Mrs. Hardy in Road to Avonlea (1990–1996).

Trivia

• The Annetoon website describes her as, Marilla is Anne’s adoptive mother and Matthew’s sister. She is a spinster with a stern, no-nonsense attitude. But underneath it all, she has a soft and loving heart. Marilla sometimes has trouble understanding high-spirited Anne and usually doesn’t believe a word of her fanciful stories. But she is very proud of her Anne and loves her deeply.
