Gracie attended the Avonlea school along with several other familiar names, Paul Irving, Davy Keith, and Dora Keith. Paul Irving was once called "Gracie's girl," being "clean gone on her," while carrying books for her and walking her home. Paul was disgruntled when Gracie giggled at the thought of him using curl papers, so he dumped his head in a spring and then fell in the rest of the way.
