Sebastian loves his daughter as much as he loves his deceased wife, Mary, and he wishes to give her the life that she deserves, full of love and beauty.
Anne Shirley[]
Anne loves Delly as much as her own family does. She is often shown taking care of her, with the help of Marilla and occasionally Matthew, and treating her like her own blood. After learning about Mary's fatal Sepsis case, Anne tells her that Mary should write a love letter to Delly, so that when she grew older, she could read it and know about her mother. Anne tells Mary that Delphine is lucky to have loved ones around her.
Gilbert Blythe[]
Gilbert has a very positive relationship with the Lacroix family. He is shown kissing and coddling Delly before going to school and in his free time. He looks after her while the rest of her family is busy and enjoys Delly's companionship.
Marilla Cuthbert[]
Marilla Cuthbert is one of the Lacroix family's close friends. Although she had been a bit hesitant to befriend a Black family, she grew to love them as much as she loved her own kin. She is shown many times throughout Season 3 taking care of Delly and attending to Mary's needs. She receives help from Rachel occasionally to help look after Delphine.
Etymology[]
Feminine form of the Latin name Delphinus, which meant "of Delphi". Delphi was a city in ancient Greece, the name of which is possibly related to Greek δελφυς (delphys) meaning "womb".
