Behind the scenes[]

Casting[]

  • Mary Kate Wiles and Sean Persaud reprise their roles as Anne Shirley and Gilbert Blythe, whom they played in the 2014 Kissing in the Rain episode "Anne & Gilbert".
  • Wiles had previously portrayed Anne in a 2011 stage adaptation of Anne of Green Gables.
  • This project also reunites Wiles with Ashley Clements (Mrs. Barry/Ruby Gillis) and Laura Spencer (Miss Stacy). They became known for their portrayals of Lydia, Lizzie and Jane Bennet respectively in The Lizzie Bennet Diaries (2012–2013). That web series started a trend of modern adaptations of classic novels based on weekly vlogs and transmedia experience, inspiring the creation of Green Gables Fables (2014–2016) and Project Green Gables (2015–2018).
    • Their The Lizzie Bennet Diaries co-star Julia Cho (who played Charlotte Lu, originally named Charlotte Lucas) provides the voices of Mrs. Donnell, Lauretta White and Julia Bell in this audio drama's sequel, Anne of Avonlea.
    • Another web series which popularised the genre of modern adaptations in the early 2010s and have been listed as one of the major inspirations and influences upon the creation of similar projects was Emma Approved (2013–2014). Being the sequel of The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, it starred Joanna Sotomura as the titular character. Sotomura voices Priscilla Grant in Anne of Avonlea.
    • Both The Lizzie Bennet Diaries and Emma Approved featured Jessica Jade Andres (Jane Andrews) who played the part as Caroline Bing (originally named Caroline Bingley).
  • The cast features many of Wiles' friends and associates from her earlier projects, such as The Lizzie Bennet Diaries (2012–2013) (Clements, Spencer and Andres), I Ship It (2014) (Sean Persaud and Joey Richter), Kissing in the Rain (2014) (Sean Persaud and Sinéad Persaud), Muzzled the Musical (2015) (Clements, Lauren Lopez, Richter), Edgar Allan Poe's Murder Mystery Dinner Party (2016) (Andres, Whitney Avalon, Clements, Sara Grace Hart, Christopher Higgins, Lopez, Curt Mega, Sean Persaud, Sineád Persaud, Richter, and Spencer) and more.

Trivia[]

  • This adaptation combines the techniques of traditional audiobooks and audio dramas. The former type can be characterised as a recorded reading of a specific book by one actor who narrates the story and provides all of the character voices. The latter genre is generally represented by a dramatised and shortened version of the source material, focusing on a dialogue read by various actors. The narrator does not have to be present – if they are, their role tends to be less prominent than in the audiobook format. Anne of Green Gables includes the narration from the original novel (albeit with minor changes), but the characters are read by the supporting ensemble cast.
