As the summer in Avonlea draws to a close, Anne finds herself preoccupied with the coming school term and raising funds for the A.V.I.S. Meanwhile, Green Gables receives a visit from an irate neighbour and Marilla becomes the weary guardian of the lively twins, Davy and Dora.
Anne begins to neglect her friends as she prepares to entertain the famous author, Charlotte E. Morgan at Green Gables. Meanwhile, the A.V.I.S. battles against Judson Parker's proposed advertisement scheme, and Anne and Diana come across a mysterious house called Echo Lodge while lost in the woods by East Grafton.
Charlotte E. Morgan pays a visit to Green Gables and Anne faces her old foe, Mrs. Blewett. When spring comes to Avonlea, love is in the air for many of its inhabitants, while Anne finds herself fighting off the advances of her many undesirable suitors.
Anne leaves for Kingsport to begin her first term at Redmond with old friends Jane, Gilbert, and Charlie. Meanwhile, Diana submits Averil's Atonement to a baking competition and Ruby reaches out to Anne after falling ill.
Jane prepares to leave Redmond, while Anne finds herself the subject of scrutiny regarding her parentage. Anne and Gilbert make a trip to Bolingbroke and, as graduation approaches, decisions must be made about the future.
