Alec King was the brother of Hetty, Roger, Ruth and Olivia King, the husband of Janet King, the father of Felicity, Felix, Cecily and Daniel King, the owner of the King Farm, and a trustee of the Avonlea school.

Portrayal

• Cedric Smith portrayed Alec in Road to Avonlea (1990–1996) and Happy Christmas, Miss King (1998). Smith also played Reverend Allan in Anne of Green Gables (1985) and provided the voice of Tupper in Anne: Journey to Green Gables (2005).

Trivia

• The current version of the official Road to Avonlea website describes him as the eldest son in the King Family, which often puts him at odds with his head-strong older sister Hetty. He is a devoted husband, father and friend who often puts the needs of others ahead of his own. Alec is proud to be a farmer, but sometimes wonders what his life would be like if he had chosen a different path.
• The 2012 version of the website described him thus: Alec King was born in 1859 and is the second child and first son to Heziah King. His brother Roger was injured in an accident that made him incapable of doing most physically laborious work. This made him the logical choice to take over the King family farm. Alec was an accomplished athlete and was a member of the Avonlea Avengers.
  
  Alec pursued Janet Ward, but her father, Reverend Walter Ward, refused to allow Alec to court Janet. It wasn’t until her Aunt Eliza stood up to her father that the Reverend relented and allowed Alec and Janet to be together, and they married in 1888. Two years after their marriage, their first daughter Felicity was born in 1890. After his father’s passing, Alec took over the duties and responsibilities of King Farm, where he raised 3 more children; Felix, Cecily and Daniel.
  
  Alec has always assumed that like his father, his oldest son would take over King Farm, meaning this responsibility would fall on the shoulders of Felix. This is a large topic of contention between Felix and Alec. Felix has aspirations to work in business and has no intentions on being a farmer. However Alec’s youngest daughter, Cecily, has expressed interest in taking over the farm, and Alec has implied that he may leave it to her.
