As Sara reads from the latest dime novel, a mysterious woman named Amanda Stone runs across the dark cliffs, seeking refuge from her pursuer, the evil Robert Rutherford. Gus Pike becomes involved in the mystery and enamoured with beautiful Amanda when he helps her escape Rutherford’s grasp by giving her shelter in the lighthouse.
Felicity King: That hussy probably knocked him in the head then robbed him.
Sara Stanley: Oh sure, then she kissed him, praised him for his courage, then ran off into the night...some robbery!
Felicity: The tramp! How dare she take advantage of poor Gus like that.
Sara: See how noble Gus is?
Hetty King: Ezekiel Crane! That man couldn't find the sky if he were lying face upwards on a raft in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
Olivia Dale: He's a nice-looking boy. He cuts a fine figure.
Gus Pike: Well, mister, the idea is that you have it before you want it yet.
Felix King: How's your arithmetic? You could be a clerk at the Carmody bank.
Gus: All right till I run out of fingers.
Felix: Come on, Gus! You've got to tell me what's going on! If you don't, Felicity will pluck out my eyelashes one by one.
Gus: Put that away, Felix! Miss King says smokin' at a tender age indicates vulgarity. I shoulda known you were sent to skype me out.
Cecily King: I know, stay here in case Digger comes back...which he never does.
Felix King: He must be breathing out of his ears!
Felix: Look, Aunt Hetty! I'm arrested!
Felix: Just when I was beginning to feel like a real criminal.
Felicity: I intend to set my sights much higher than a dirt-covered boy who lives in an old lighthouse!
